Mind Maps are one of the most effective ways of thinking through issues and making connections to new ones.

FreeMind is a Java-based, cross-platform solution which is designed to make the process as intuitive as possible via 'child' and 'sibling' links that hopefully build your map into something meaningful. To get started with FreeMind, you'll need to locate and double-click on the 'freemind.jar' file in the 'lib/' folder of the FreeMind folder.

You start off with a 'Child Node' which is your main subject. You can write this title in a huge number of font sizes and styles and then right-click on it to add Child Nodes, which are subjects that relate to it. You then have a huge number of tools and annotations down the left hand side to add color and notes to your mind map. This toolbar is horribly crushed together and cluttered though, making it very difficult to see them clearly.

The basic adding and removal of items on FreeMind is extremely easy but the interface does suffer from a lack of organization and clarity. The above mentioned toolbar is way too crowded with many annotations that are not particular useful (such as penguins) and overall, the program does feel a bit flimsy.

FreeMind is, however, very quick and free to use - which is more than can be said for many similar Mind Mapping programs.

You don?t have to do anything apart from running CrystalDiskInfo in order to have a health status report, stating temperature level, error rate, spin-up time and lots of other information which might be useful to know, especially for tech-savvy users.

Even if you are not tech-savvy, you might still find it cheerful to see written in a glossy blue box that your hard disk status is ?Good?.

Unfortunately, there is no interaction with CrystalDiskInfo, it?s just a window with data and you can?t do much else with those.

There is a graph display, but it doesn?t seem particularly easy to understand it, if and when it works.

Although the figures given by CrystalDiskInfo can be hard to be understand for non tech-savvy users, you can still find out more about the technical characteristics of your hard disk and know easily if everything is ok with it.

Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare is a free indie horror game. Despite its retro graphics, this first-person horror delivers scares as well as being genuinely innovative. It's highly recommended for all horror fans.

I don't want to give too much away, but the game's introduction is great. It claims you need to make sure the RAR file was extracted properly or the game won't work. This probably means you'll have that folder window open as you begin, which is important, as that folder is somewhere you will come back to!

The first time you play Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare, it seems like a pixelated Slender game. You're somewhere in the dark, and you need to find things to escape, you assume. But the game ends abruptly, and that is where things get interesting.

From here on, it's clear that Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare is playing with you, which is quite unusual. Developer Ivan Zanotti has found a way for his game to be much more than the now common series of jump-scares, and this makes it pack a much bigger punch than the many slender clones out there.

Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare is an fascinating little horror game. Turn out the lights, put on your headphones and enjoy it.

Decor8 is a desktop customization application for Windows 8 and Windows RT that allows you to customize the Windows tiled interface.

Windows 8 comes with plenty of user customizations out of the box but for some odd reason, users couldn't change the background of the new "start" menu to anything other than what Microsoft has included. Decor8 changes that by allows users to easily select Microsoft's pictures or browse for other pictures on your computer.

Decor8 works well and has a beautifully simple interface. If you've used Windows 8's settings applications, you'll feel right at home. The sections in Decor8 are appropriately labeled and easy to understand. There are tons so customizations like blur, fade, color, and contrast. You can even set your desktop background to be the background of the tile interface.

These customizations should have been included with Windows 8 but weren't. Decor8 is fixes these issues but won't help Windows 8 feel any more familiar to the uninitiated. If you want to get the traditional Start menu back, check out this article.

In 'Expert Mode,' power users are given a detailed list of what exactly Advanced SystemCare Ultimate is doing. Here's just some of the optimizations that Advanced SystemCare Ultimate will perform:

This widget is great for monitoring system resources as well as performing common tasks with Advanced SystemCare Ultimate.

If anything goes awry, Advanced SystemCare Ultimate offers a 'Rescue' tool. From there you can create or view system restore points. Registry files are also backed up so you can restore them if anything bad happens. These features are pretty basic. It would have been nice to see Advanced SystemCare Ultimate include a comprehensive backup solution.

Performance of Advanced SystemCare Ultimate is good, though full scans can take a long time. While performing maintenance, Advanced SystemCare Ultimate performed quickly, even with defragmenting disks and fixing registry files. There is an option to allow Advanced SystemCare Ultimate perform fixes automatically, without users having to review what needs to be fixed. This saves some time and thinking out of maintenance.

The virus scanner in Advanced SystemCare Ultimate combines BitDefender's antivirus technology with IObit's own malware detection engine to protect your PC. Advanced SystemCare Ultimate will run alongside other antivirus scanners but will disable Windows Defender, which is Windows 8's default antivirus program. We are still testing Advanced SystemCare Ultimate's antivirus performance and will update this review when the results come in.

Overall, Advanced SystemCare Ultimate offers a users one of the most comprehensive security and optimization suites available. Good performance and ease of use make Advanced SystemCare Ultimate an easy recommendation.

The program does have an extensive manual and forum but unless you are familiar with protocol analysis, they won't mean much to you. For those that are in the know, Wireshark features deep inspection of hundreds of protocols, live capture and offline analysis and even VoIP analysis. Any captured network data can be browsed via an easy to use GUI or alternatively via the TTY-mode TShark utility. In addition, live data can be read from Ethernet, IEEE 802.11, PPP/HDLC, ATM, Bluetooth, USB, Token Ring, Frame Relay, FDDI, and others (depending on your platform).

Wireshark is a highly specialized tool that the average user won't find much use for but for any network administrators out there, it's an essential addition to your toolkit.

Non è amichevole come programmi di file sharing più moderni, ma per connettersi a questo network, è la scelta migliore Sebbene non sia più popolare come qualche anno fa, la rete di file sharing Direct Connect è ancora viva e vegeta. E se si vuole un programma sicuro e libero da pubblicità per collegarvisi, la scelta migliore è probabilmente DC++. Il sistema Direct Connect funziona attraverso degli hub, delle enormi stanze di chat (più o meno) a cui gli utenti possono connettersi. Alcune sono pubbliche, altre private. Alcune hanno delle regole (come un minimo di gigabyte in condivisione), altre sono libere. Al primo utilizzo DC++ scarica da un server una nutrita lista di hub pubblici funzionanti. E con un semplice click permette di connettersi a quello che più sembra interessante. DC++ è un ottimo software. Permette di configurare le proprie impostazioni di connessione, di collegarsi a più di un hub contemporaneamente, di riprendere un download interrotto in una sessione precedente. Tuttavia DC++ non è così immediato come altri client P2P. eMule, LimeWire o uTorrent sono più amichevoli. E si connettono a network più usati.
